The Gorilla Suit
“I’m looking for someone who can wear a gorilla suit for the day and walk around various offices. The client is a major supermarket and this promotion is for an upcoming commercial.Payment would be £100 for the day - 9am to 5pm (payment would be made in cash)”
This is an add I saw in one of the online job newsletters
(http://www.talentcircle.com/) that I received this morning….
Yes! I can just imagine myself walking down Holborn (where I once used to temp) handing out leaflets for a major supermarket! Do they have any idea what the security is like these days? Not only do couriers have to take of their helmets as they enter offices in the city, but, and I may be wrong here, wouldn’t it just break the illusion a little bit if the gorilla has to walk into every reception, take off his head and say “ Hi, I’m the gorilla, I’m here for the promotion ?” Not to mention the fact that if anyone has ever travelled on the tube in rush hour...they wouldn't even contemplate doing it in a gorilla suit !!
Hmmm.. Anyway you have to send in a C.V …and there are probably even auditions on this…....
- Hi my name is Allan and I'm here for the Audition ?
- Great ! Wellcome, well if you would like to show us your piece, in you own time....( the actor goes into a corner and as he "prepares" he emits several grunts, and squeaks and finally breaks out into full Gorilla mode......)
Wasn’t it Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie who said “ But I was a great Tomato !” …wonder if I would be a great gorilla ? ………on second thought…Don’t Answer that !

Adaptations and upcomming projects.
On Monday ,I had a call from Peter who will be directing us in The Little Prince, asking me If I would do some last minute revisons/corrections in french, on his draft of Camus L'etranger. Now L'etranger, or The Stanger by Camus is one of the seminal works of French Litterature, ( http://www.gradesaver.com/ClassicNotes/Titles/stranger/) and as far as I know this will be one of the first times that it has been adapted for the stage. It's an exiting project, and going through the script I realised how hard it is to convey the atmosphere of the novel in a script and also how hard it is to construct dialogue from such a wordy and litterary piece as The Stranger.
Anyway, I spent most of yesterday going through it ,and got it back in time for Peter to send to the editors. Suffice to say that on paper it's an exiting project and I hope that I will be able to be part of it on some level...
This little excercise also spurned me to apply for the rights for U.S.D.B ( Sorry but am keeping the full title for myself until rights have been secured. ) so now I am waiting for the answer....and will keep you posted..

What's up DOC?
As some of you may know I will be going into rehearsals shortly for "Le Petit Prince " by Antoine de Saint Exupery. For those who do not know the story here is a link http://www.spiritual.com.au/articles/prince/prince_contents.htm
(sorry about the spiritual bit it was the best link I could find in English).
The company I will be working with is called Tour de Force, again if you are curious (and you don't have to be) here is a link to their website :
http://www.tdftheatre.co.uk . This will give you more of an idea what we will be performing.
The company organizing all this is American Drama Group Europe and they have a superb website: http://www.adg-europe.com Well, I won't bore you with more links, but they do give you a good idea of what I will be doing until Christmas.
I start rehearsals on the 19th of September and 4 weeks later we are off to Germany!!.
I hope to keep you updated on all the goings on in rehearsals and off course on tour where we will meet all the quirky Germans !

Breaking into a sweat!
So here we are my blog finally on the Webb, after 2 days and multiple suicide attempts with a glue stick! Never knew that just getting it out there posed more problems than signing up for one ! ( it must be said that I am hosting it on my own Webb server @ allangarnier.com.That was a fun experience!). So bear with me as I attempt to both learn to Blog and finnish my website!! Anyway enough of the technical jargon and on to What's up DOC ?
